The Dreamer awakes
The shadow goes by
The tale I have told you,
That tale is a lie.
But listen to me,
Bright maiden, proud youth:
The tale is a lie;
What it tells is the truth.
--Traditional folktale ending

Interfaith
Story Circle
September
14
Wednesday 7:00 pm Marni Gillard will be the featured facilitator for
this year’s first meeting of the Interfaith Story Circle at the
(newly-renovated) Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception 125 Eagle St. Albany
12202 (corner of Madison Ave and Eagle St.) You can park in the NYS Museum
Parking Lot. Marni’s focus is Stories from our CULTURAL ROOTS. Marni will share
her journey of “letting in” the Irish stories she long avoided because of
difficult words, issues (war tales), and a sense “they aren’t MY stories.”
She’ll encourage others to bring/tell tales from their cultural traditions,
from their families, neighborhoods, schools, or any aspect of culture. While
Marni will focus on tales from her Irish tradition, she fondly tells “cultural”
tales from her days as a Brownie, her Catholic faith, her AFS foreign-exchange
experience, from her town park, swimming pool, and “the back lot.” All kinds of
cultural tales are welcome. Whether you’ve been an active member of the
Interfaith Story Circle or never attended, we hope you’ll join us for this
year’s opening story-sharing.

Marketing Ideas – it’s all of us making connections
A
Tellabration flyer is available on-line: www.storycircleatproctors.org/Tell
flyer WIDE 8-3-2011.pdf. (While this is in color, it prints fine on black
and white printers too.) Flyers printed on colored paper are also available
from Kate Dudding – please contact her and let her know how many you want:
383-4620 or kate@katedudding.com
Immediately
begin marketing
to groups of adults, since groups need time to plan their events. The committee
asks all Story Circle members to give a flyer to each adult group they belong
to, such as:
Senior
centers and residences; Groups at places of worship; Red Hat groups; book
clubs; friends of libraries; service groups; etc.
Ideally,
each member of Story Circle will contact five groups. If you are emailing
people, you can also refer them to our Tellabration web page: www.storycircleatproctors.org/tellabration.shtml

Question of the Month
Answers
to the June/July question: Are artists liars?
From
Marni Gillard: As the poem (see page one) says, TRUTH is our work. We
fashion words (or dances or illustrations or sculptures or symphonies) out of
an inner sense of truth. Will it always be factual? Heck, no. And while we do
playfully call ourselves liars, or collect in "liars' clubs"
(tall-tale-tellers), but we are truth-seekers sharing our take on life's
mysteries.
From
Kate Dudding: I don't think artists are liars. However, there is a
well-known saying that storytellers do not let the truth stand in the way of a
good story. I think artists reframe the truth to make their point. I think the
best artists reframe the truth without impinging on its heart.
